1. Look for full details on the page
A trustworthy listing shows weight (carat and ratti), country of origin, natural or treated status, dimensions and certificate details. If a product page hides these, that is the first warning.
2. Understand weight: carat and ratti
Carat is the international unit (1 carat = 0.2 gram). Ratti is the traditional unit used in India, roughly 0.91 carat. Make sure the listing says which one the number refers to.
3. Ask about treatment
Heating, oiling and dyeing are common. Many are accepted when declared. The problem is not treatment; it is hidden treatment. Our listings show the treatment on every page.
4. Check the certificate
For valuable stones ask for a report from a recognised laboratory and match the report number to the stone. Read our certificate guide for what a report tells you.
5. Compare price fairly
Compare stones of the same type, size, colour and treatment. A price far below others for a "natural" premium stone is a reason to look closer.
6. Delivery, invoice and returns
- Insured, tracked delivery.
- A GST invoice with the product details.
- A clear replacement policy for damaged or wrong items.
